Strive To Be Green

So you don’t know where to start?

So you don’t know where to start? Neither did I. You want to be more green. You want to feel less guilty about the mark you’re leaving on this earth, but where the heck do you start? There’s the usual recycling, making sure you throw out your trash rather then throw it on the side of the road. Maybe you’ve even taken an extra step and started a compost pile….. but what else can you do?

Well for starters around the house here’s some quick tips….

~ Swap out lightbulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs. They save big money in the end. Not sure what to look for? Check out this site, EnergyStar Compact Fluorescent Guide

~Unplug any chargers you don’t use ALL day long. Like cell phone chargers, bluetooth chargers, etc. That’s right! Even though you don’t have it plugged into your phone, it’s STILL sucking up energy! Unplug the little guys and save energy!

~Set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and few degrees higher in the summer. I know some people (such as myself) have a horrible inner thermostat, and therefore we get COLD very easily. OR some of you get hot very easily, but do like my mom always said! If you’re cold, put on more clothes! (or in my case I’d grab a blanket). If you’re too hot grab a glass of ice water, now hold it. This will actually cool you down. Your blood circulates the coolness from the water through your body and cools you down.

~Enough with the bottled water! I still to this day can’t believe how people have become so picky about WATER! Grab your very own REUSABLE water bottle and refill it at a tap. Plus, I’ve always argued that tap water has fluoride in it, which makes it better :P I don’t know if it’s still true, but I like to keep believing it, and I feel good about using my own reusable bottle.

~Don’t toss your batteries or small electronics in the trash! Especially cell phones! (those can be recycled at local cell phone stores and be reused for a good cause.) Dispose of electronics responsibly. Here’s a great website on this topic… eRecycle~ Electronics Recycling

This is a small list, it’s just something to give you some small ideas to start with. Everyone needs at least a small push when it comes to most things. Hopefully this will help. I will be posting more elaborate ideas and have the organized in a way that you will be able to find things easily. I also will occasionally post stories about news on new products or services that can help you go green. There are definitely some crazy stories out there! If you’ve heard or any crazy stories and want to share them hit me up! I love to hear about new things.
